Born in 1987 into a French-Greek-Syrian family, violinist Marie-Claudine Papadopoulos began playing the violin at the age of five. At the age of 14, she obtained a gold medal from the CRR in Strasbourg and a Master’s degree from the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe in 2011. She then joined Roman Nodel’s soloist class at the Musikhochschule in Mannheim, before obtaining the Artist Diploma from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 2017.

In 2012 she won the first prize in the international competition “Ton und Erklärung” of the German Industry Foundation in Munich, which enabled her to perform throughout Germany the following year and to record a CD with Oehms Classics. She has won numerous international competitions, including the DAAD Prize, the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Competition, the Oldenburg Promenade and the Henri Marteau Competition. In 2021, Marie-Claudine received a grant from the Deutscher Musikrat as part of its Neustart Kultur programme, to restart concert activity as soon as the health situation permits.

Marie-Claudine performs as a soloist with orchestras such as the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Göttinger Symphoniker, the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Essen Philharmoniker, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester, the Kosice Philharmonic Orchestra and the San Pedro Sula Philharmonic Orchestra.

At the same time, she has devoted herself to chamber music, participating in numerous festivals, including the France Musique Festival, the “Heidelberger Frühling”, the “Heraklion Summer Festival” (Crete), the “Murten Classics” (Switzerland), the “Festival jeunes talents” (Paris), the “Festival der Nationen” (Bad Wörishofen), the “Paxos Festival” (Greece), the “Imnufest” (Honduras).

She is a laureate of the Kulturfonds of the city of Salzburg and a scholarship holder of the Meyer Foundation, the Rotary Club and the Deutscher Musikrat. Holder of the CA for violin teacher and passionate about teaching, she created in 2009 with the cellist Alexandre Vay the Summer Academy of Chamber Music of Trouville-sur-mer, of which she is also a teacher.

Since 2017, she also performs and teaches every summer at the chamber music course in Craponne-sur-Arzon, in the Haute-Loire. She has recorded three CDs with her brother Dimitri Papadopoulos, two of which are devoted to rare sonatas by J. Haydn. In 2020 she also released a CD produced by the BrahmsGesellschaft in Baden-Baden with pianist Milana Chernyavska. Born in 1986, Alexandre Vay started playing music at the age of five in Le Mans. After studying in Angers, he obtained his diploma with honours from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon in the class of Yvan Chiffoleau. He then went to Germany to study with Martin Ostertag at the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe, where he obtained a Master’s degree and the Konzertexam diploma with the highest distinctions.

He formed a duo with the pianist Dimitri Papadopoulos, with whom he recorded the complete Beethoven sonatas. The duo has performed in numerous concerts, notably in Lyon, Strasbourg, Arras, Karlsruhe, Bangkok… In 2011, they won the third prize in the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition and have been invited to perform in the programmes “Génération jeunes talents” and “Plaisirs d’amour” on France Musique, “Carrefour de Lodéon” on France Inter, and also in Germany on BR-Klassik and SWR. Alexandre Vay has also recorded Richard Strauss’ Quartet and Piano Trios on the CPO label with, among others, Daniel Blumenthal on piano.

He has received advice from great cellists such as Janos Starker, Gary Hoffman, Anner Bylsma, Antonio Meneses and Steven Isserlis and has collaborated with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Kirill Petrenko, Semyon Bychkov and Vladimir Ashkenazy.

He performs in many festivals, such as the “Festival de l’Epau” in Le Mans, the “Festival d’été d’Epernay”, “Les nocturnes de la cathédrale de Rouen”, the “Thy Chamber Music Festival” in Denmark, “Pro musica” in Thailand, the International Music Festival of San Pedro Sula in Honduras. In 2013 he premiered the ballet “In den Winden im Nichts” by H. Spoerli at the Karlsruhe Opera House, playing the Bach suites for solo cello. He has performed as a soloist with the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kosice Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Pedro Sula Philharmonic Orchestra in Honduras and the Orchestre Symphonique du Mans.

Passionate about teaching, Alexandre Vay has been a cello teacher at the Summer Music Academy of Trouville/mer since 2009 and has been teaching at the Summer Music Academy of Craponne/Arzon since 2017. He has been invited to give Masterclasses at the University of Bangkok, San Pedro Sula but also at the Conservatoire of Lyon and Le Mans.

At the age of 21, he was invited to the Opéra National de Lyon as a solo cellist. In 2012, he became co-cellist of the Munich Radio Orchestra and since 2021, he has been principal cellist of the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire.
