The Ermitage Duo, made up of Paul-Marie Kuzma (cello) and Ionah Maiatsky (piano), was founded in 2018 when they met at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Paris. Their complicity on stage and off was then obvious and they quickly began an in-depth work and built a common vision of the works of the repertoire. Trained by renowned teachers such as François Salque, Claire Désert, the Ébène Quartet, Itamar Golan, Jonas Vitaud and others, they continue to perfect their skills at the CNSMDP, where they are studying for a Master’s degree in Chamber Music. They perform on different stages in Paris or during various festivals (Festival des Pianissimes, Le vent des Arts, Festival Ravel, Musicando…). In 2020, they won a 1st prize at the France Music Competition.  In 2022, they win the 2nd prize at the Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon.

Ionah Maiatsky, a pianist of Franco-Russian origin, has already distinguished himself in international competitions: in 2021, he was selected for the prestigious Clara Haskil Competition and received the first prize at the Albert Roussel Competition in Paris. Trained with Billy Eidi, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in 2018 where he studied with Marie-Josèphe Jude and Jonas Vitaud.

Paul-Marie Kuzma started playing the cello at the age of 6 at the Conservatoire de Saint Cloud under the guidance of Thérèse Pollet. He then entered the CRR of Boulogne Billancourt in the class of Pascale Michaca, before joining the class of Xavier Gagnepain, who awakened in him a deep love for chamber music.

After a year of advanced training with Cyrille Lacrouts, he was unanimously accepted at the CNSMD in Paris in the class of Jérôme Pernoo. In 2018, he became a laureate of the Tremplin International Competition and will participate in the Académie de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France from 2019.

Passionate about orchestras from a very young age, he will join the Orchestre de Paris in May 2021 under the direction of Klaus Makelä.
