Artists for 2026–2028. Lauréat du Concours international Franz Schubert et musique moderne (FSMM) 2025, le Gugg Piano Duo se produit régulièrement dans des salles de concert prestigieuses, notamment au Konzerthaus de Vienne, à la salle Brahms du Musikverein de Vienne, au Stefaniensaal du Musikverein de Graz et à l’Athénée de Bucarest — où ils ont remplacé le duo formé par Martha Argerich et Cristina Marton-Argerich pour une soirée de récital. Ils ont été nommés « BBC New Generation Artists » pour la période 2026-2028.
Tereza Gugg-Kalabova et Johannes Gugg se sont rencontrés à l’âge de 14 ans au sein du cursus pour jeunes talents de l’Université de musique et des arts du spectacle de Graz. Sur les conseils de leur professeur de l’époque, ils ont commencé à jouer ensemble et ont remporté des prix nationaux et internationaux après seulement quelques mois. Au fil des ans, ils ont développé une complicité musicale intuitive ainsi qu’un lien personnel profond ; aujourd’hui mariés, ils sont, selon les termes du journal *Kleine Zeitung*, « inséparables, tant dans la vie qu’au piano ».
Le Gugg Piano Duo a remporté le premier prix à de nombreuses reprises. Outre le concours FSMM, le duo a décroché le premier prix au Concours de duos Suzana Szörenyi à Bucarest (incluant le prix du public), au concours ArtePiano à Castelnuovo di Farfa, au concours Franz Schubert à Jeseník, au concours Music and Earth à Sofia, au concours de duos de piano Vlastimil Lejsek à Brno, au concours de bourses Martha Debelli de l’Université de musique et des arts du spectacle de Graz, au concours autrichien « Prima la musica » ainsi qu’au concours de l’Académie internationale d’été de la mdw. Parmi leurs autres distinctions figurent des deuxièmes prix au concours de piano de Rome et au concours Duettissimo de Cracovie (où ils ont également reçu le prix Mozart), ainsi qu’un prix spécial au concours ARD de Munich.
Tous deux ont terminé avec mention leurs études de piano solo auprès d’Ayami Ikeba et de pédagogie instrumentale à l’Université de musique et des arts du spectacle de Graz. Ils ont également obtenu avec mention leur diplôme de master en duo de piano dans la classe du duo Silver-Garburg. Ils se sont produits avec des orchestres tels que l’Orchestre philharmonique de Cracovie, l’Orchestre du Conservatoire de Brno, la Webern Chamber Philharmonic et l’Orchestre de chambre de Munich. Leur interprétation du concerto pour piano à quatre mains de Carl Czerny avec la Webern Chamber Philharmonic a été diffusée sur la chaîne ORF dans le cadre d’un concert caritatif pour l’opération « Licht ins Dunkel ». Le duo est également intervenu dans des émissions de radio et de télévision en Autriche (Ö1), en Allemagne (ARD), en Pologne (Radio Cracovie), en République tchèque (Radio Vltava) et aux Pays-Bas (NPO).
Leurs engagements les ont conduits en Allemagne, en République tchèque, en Pologne, en Estonie, en Roumanie, en Autriche, en Italie, en Espagne, en Slovaquie, aux Pays-Bas et au Brésil. Au cours de la prochaine saison, ils se produiront pour la première fois en France, en Angleterre et aux États-Unis, ainsi qu’au Musikverein de Graz, au festival Styriarte et au Festival de Ljubljana, entre autres.
En tant qu’artistes invités de l’organisation « Jeunesse Austria » pour la saison 2026-2027, ils participeront à plusieurs concerts, notamment leurs débuts dans la Salle dorée du Musikverein de Vienne en tant que solistes avec orchestre.

Tereza Gugg-Kalabova and Johannes Gugg met at the age of 14 in the course for highly gifted students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. At the suggestion of their professor at the time, they began making music together and won national and international prizes after just a few months. Over the years, they developed an intuitive musical interplay and a deep personal connection; today, they are married and, in the words of Kleine Zeitung, “inseparable both in life and at the piano”.
The Gugg Piano Duo has been awarded first prize numerous times. In addition to the FSMM Competition, the duo has won first prize at the Suzana Szörenyi Duo Competition in Bucharest (including the audience prize), the ArtePiano Competition in Castelnuovo di Farfa, the Franz Schubert Competition in Jeseník, the Music and Earth Competition in Sofia, the Vlastimil Lejsek Piano Duo Competition in Brno, the Martha Debelli Scholarship Competition of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, the Austrian Music Competition Prima la musica and the International Summer Academy of the mdw. Their other awards include 2nd prizes at the piano competition in Rome and the Duettissimo competition in Krakow, where they were also awarded the Mozart Prize, as well as a special prize at the ARD Competition in Munich.
Both completed their studies in piano solo performance with Ayami Ikeba and in instrumental pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with distinction. They also graduated with distinction from the master’s program in piano duo performance in the class of the Silver-Garburg Duo.
They have performed with orchestras such as the Krakow Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Conservatory in Brno, the Webern Chamber Philharmonic and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Their performance of Carl Czerny’s piano concerto for four hands with the Webern Chamber Philharmonic was broadcast on ORF as part of a charity concert for Licht ins Dunkel. The duo has also appeared on television and radio programs in Austria (Ö1), Germany (ARD), Poland (Radio Krakow), the Czech Republic (Radio Vltava) and the Netherlands (NPO).
Concert invitations have taken the duo to Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, Romania, Austria, Italy, Spain, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Brazil. In the coming season, they will also be performing in France, England and the USA for the first time, as well as at the Musikverein Graz, the Styriarte and the Ljubljana Festival, among others.
As Featured Artists of Jeunesse Austria for the 2026/27 season they will appear in several engagements including their debut in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein as soloists with orchestra.
